: pergerakan artistik pertengahan abad ke-20 yang terdiri dari pelbagai gaya dan teknik .Penekanan utama adalah kebebasan artis untuk menyampaikan sikap dan emosi melalui sarana non-tradisional dan biasanya non-representasi makna."Merriam-Webster Dictionary"

Abstrak ekspresonis dipersembahkan secara meluas melalui kepelbagaian gaya (stylistic), meskipun tidaklah secara eksklusif, rangka non-representasinya. Inti lukisan abstrak ekspresionis memberi tumpuan utama terhadap kualiti permukaan, iaitu tesktur dan langgam berus (brushstroke); kanvas yang luas/besar; adaptasi pendekatan tentang ruang di mana seluruh bahagian kanvas mempunyai atau memainkan peranan yang setara penting dalam penghasilan keseluruhan karya; ia memanfaatkan aski semasa proses menghasilkan karya, glorifikasi terhadap hasil karya sebagai wasitah komunikasi visual , dan usaha untuk menghantar emosi /jiwa langsung ke kanvas. Abstract expressionism presented a broad range of stylistic diversity within its largely, though not exclusively, nonrepresentational framework. Basic to most abstract expressionist painting were the attention paid to surface qualities, i.e., qualities of brushstroke and texture; the use of huge canvases; the adoption of an approach to space in which all parts of the canvas played an equally vital role in the total work; the harnessing of accidents that occurred during the process of painting; the glorification of the act of painting itself as a means of visual communication; and the attempt to transfer pure emotion directly onto the canvas."Yahoo!
